“Movements in Thirds is a piece that combines everything that is important in my life as an artist. Dancing, painting, and drawing are used together to create this work. Dance is not only the subject matter on which it is based, but the movements of my body as I created the work became equally important. I became more engaged with the creative process because my entire body had to move in order to cover the expansive surface. This piece is not based on a sketch or a preconceived idea of what it should look like. The painting is in fact a living thing one which grew and changed and directed me where to go. I feel that it is still in a state where at any moment a new line or color could be added, and I like that openness about the painting.
