"Communicate" portrays a series of hand gestures that I based on my movements as a dancer.  It was my first attempt at creating movement in a piece by repeating one body part in several different positions.  The colors and the grid-like background were inspired by one of my favorite artists, Richard Diebenkorn.  As my paintings in the series progressed, the forms became less concrete.  I chose to name this piece "Communicate" because dancers convey a strong sense of emotion through their hand gestures.  It also can relate to communication through sign language.
